Marina Owners

Is our data secure?

Yes, all data is stored and backed up nightly. Credit card and ACH information is tokenized, meaning we do not store any card or bank info.

How fast does money get deposited to our bank account?

Transactions are processed and deposited at 2 a.m. each night, so you can expect to see credit card payments in one business day. ACH processes in 3-5 days.

Marina Operators

Can I limit my employees on what they can use in Sharper?

Sharper has role-based permissions, so you will be able to limit specific employees on what they can and can’t do in the system, down to the most miniscule tasks.

Can I use Sharper at home?

Sharper is a fully cloud-based solution allowing you to access your site anywhere in the world as long as you have internet.

How does support work?

Following implementation, you will have full access to your implementation specialist for 30 days. Afterward, you will have access to our support portal where you can submit help tickets, read helpful articles, and chat with Sharper representatives.

Can we request development ideas?

Absolutely! Sharper is keen on growing with our customers; in fact, many of our best tools and features originated from owners and groups.

How can the Sharper software help us make business decisions?

Sharper offers a Power BI integration allowing you to export identical reports from different marinas to see performance for all facets of each marina in a single view.

Pricing

Do you offer discounts?

We offer discounts to multi-marina properties. Contact a Sharper representative for more details!

Do I have to sign a contract?

Sharper does not lock anyone into a contract, meaning you can cancel at any time if you find Sharper isn’t the best fit for your marina. We’re THAT confident you will love Sharper!

Is Sharper really all-inclusive?

Sharper prides itself on being open and honest with the pricing model. No hidden fees, no call for a quote, no limits on anything!

Implementation

What hardware is required?

The only hardware required by Sharper is receipt printers and credit card readers.

What are the implementation fees?

Sharper charges a one-time fee of $1,500 for implementation, plus travel and expenses if a Sharper representative travels for in-person training.

How long does it take to implement Sharper?

Once a go-live date is agreed upon, Sharper will take one week to completely build your site, including data entry. Then we will spend another week training your staff, either onsite or remotely, depending on your preference.

Integration

How does the integration with SpeedyDock work?

Sharper sends new or updated records of contacts, vessels, spaces, and reservations to SpeedyDock, and vice versa. In return, SpeedyDock provides real-time updates on charges and inventory sales related to boat movements. It does not, however, communicate movements from a customer's rack to the water back to Sharper. When a boat movement occurs, SpeedyDock requests a list of Sharper's inventory. After the movement, if any inventory items or charges are selected, an invoice is sent to Sharper in real-time, using the current date for all transactions to avoid issues with locked financial periods.

Does it cost extra to use these integrations?

Sharper is an all-in-one package. The ability to use our integrations is part of the Sharper experience.

Is Sharper open to integrations if you do not currently integrate with a tool that we currently use?

Yes! Sharper is always open to integrations and partnerships with accounting and operational tools to help run your marina.

Do you integrate with QuickBooks?

Yes! We have a two-way integration with QuickBooks desktop version and QuickBooks online. These integrations minimize the manual data entry required. Key data sent from Sharper to QuickBooks includes the creation and modification of contacts, invoices, and credit notes, as POS inventory. It also covers daily summaries of walk-in customer sales, invoice payments, and the allocation of various customer payments to invoices.

Who uses Sharper?

Sharper is a super flexible and customizable management system, making it perfect for all types of businesses including small independent marinas, large marina groups, boatyards, dry stacks, campgrounds, and more.

What’s behind the name “Sharper”?

We’re glad you asked! The word Sharper is a mashup of the names of Steve and Heather’s children. Plus, it sounds pretty cool as a word to describe a software business! We think the system makes marina businesses SHARPER.

Who started Sharper?

Sharper was founded by boating enthusiast and computer programmer Steve Champion and his wife Heather. After selling Sharper to an investment group, the Champions still run the business.

Can Sharper book transient slips online?

Absolutely. Sharper tracks real-time availability so boaters can book a slip without having to call the marina.

Does Sharper work for dry stacks and boat yards?

Yes. Thanks to an integration with SpeedyDock, you can track hauls and launches effortlessly all while still managing assignments and billings through Sharper.

How easy is it to move people around in my harbor?

Utilizing our space assignments tool, you can utilize permeant moves, temporary moves, and temporary departures with just a couple of clicks.

Rental Management

Can Sharper help me manage assets besides boats?

You’ll be amazed at Sharper’s capabilities with all types of different assets. Beyond boats, Sharper can be customized to handle your hotel, jet skis, water toys, houseboats, cabins and tiny homes, floating homes, transient slips, camp sites, bikes, kayaks, and more. The sky’s the limit!

Does Sharper take a fee per booking?

No. Sharper does not charge any fees for bookings, allowing you to dictate your pricing, not the software!

Can we use tablets to run Sharper on the rental dock?

Absolutely. Sharper is tablet-friendly, making boat checklists for departure and arrival a breeze. Ensure damage protection by snapping a photo of the boat to store on the reservation.

How much of the rental process can be automated?

Sharper offers options from beginning to end to help automate the booking process for your customers. Online bookings, payment collections, contract e-signature, and auto emails are ways we ensure a smooth booking process without the hassle.

Point of Sale

Can I operate my restaurant using the POS?

With fully customizable prep stations and modifiers, marina restaurant management is a turnkey feature only Sharper can offer!

Can fuel be charged to someone’s booking?

Being in all-in-one system, Sharper boasts a seamless process for charging fuel, snacks, clothing, and other incidentals to a booking.

Does Sharper have SKUs?

Yes, using our fully functional POS, you can use barcodes provided by vendors or print your own right from Sharper!

Online Booking

Do I have to pay booking fees?

No, Sharper does not charge your business any booking fees. However, you could charge your customers a booking fee to offset some of the monthly subscription cost of Sharper.

Can we have dynamic pricing?

Sharper supports even the most complicated rate plans. Likewise, you can have pricing increase based on occupancy booked for any given day.

How can you ensure no double bookings?

Using real-time availability down to the second, we can ensure that even when someone is in the process of booking, the item will be marked as occupied.

To book online, are my clients redirected to a third-party website?

No, similar to the customer portal, the online booking tool is embedded directly into your website and will even match the theme of your website, making it entirely yours.

Customer Portal

Do we have to use the portal?

No. Although we recommend using this tool to save marina staff time, like other Sharper features, this is optional.

Does the portal live within a Sharper website?

No. The portal is embedded directly on your website to match your website theme. No Sharper branding will pollute your website, making the tool completely seamless and consistent with your brand.

Can customers manage their own information such as phone numbers and addresses?

The portal is designed to take as much work away from office admins as possible, including standard profile information like credit card digits, addresses, and phone numbers.

Reporting & Analytics

How easy is reconciling with Sharper reporting?

Daily credit payment type reports can be run to see all payments across Sharper including portal, POS, and bookings payments. With one processor powering them all, a single report can show full transparency.

If I need help creating a report for something specific, who do I call?

We have many great stock reports, but sometimes you will need something specific. While you will have training on creating customized reports, always feel free to email to our prompt support team.

Can I export reports after I run them?

Yes, any report you create can easily be exported as an Excel file or a CSV file.

Campground Reservations

Can we do seasonal reservations too?

With Sharper, you are able to book customers seasonally, long-term, or for overnight spots.

Can customers choose their own campsite when booking online?

Absolutely! Using our book-by-map tool, your customers are able to choose exactly where they want to camp with real-time availability.

Do I manage campground reservations combined with marina reservations?

No. The campground module is its own tool separate from the other modules; however, because Sharper is an all-in-one tool, customers are able to book a rental boat and a campsite all together!
